Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?
For me personally, I didn’t always have a desire or passion to write. I was the kid in school that watched movies to do their book reports. My father owned a book bindery business where we would bind the books together and I was always trying to figure out ways of not working there. I was too busy playing sports outside and hanging out with my friends. However, I digress; what led me to becoming a writer involved a true story attempting to sell my first home in Colorado back in 2019. What should’ve take thirty days ended up being a six-month ordeal filled with character assassination, accusations of meth, murder and the end of my career at Amazon. And thus, my debut novel Meth Murder & Amazon was born!
In terms of specific influences, I’ve been inspired by a diverse array of writers and works. Authors like C. S. Lewis, Dr. Seuss, Douglas Adams, and Terry Pratchett have left an indelible mark on my writing style with their wit, humor, and ability to blend the absurd with the profound.
Furthermore, I’ve always been drawn to narratives that challenge conventional norms and explore the complexities of the human experience. Films, television, and various art forms have also played a significant role in shaping my storytelling sensibilities, as they offer unique perspectives and storytelling techniques that I find endlessly fascinating.
Ultimately, writing for me is a way to connect with others, to explore the vast tapestry of human emotions and experiences, and to hopefully entertain and provoke thought in equal measure. It’s a journey of self-discovery and expression that I’m blessed to embark on.
What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?
Prior to deciding to take a stab at writing, I had the privilege of working in various professions, each of which contributed to shaping my perspective and enriching my storytelling.
One profession that stands out is my experience in cybersecurity, where I delved into the intricacies of safeguarding digital information and specifically payment card information. It is a challenging yet rewarding field that taught me the importance of vigilance, adaptability, and problem-solving—skills that have proven invaluable in my writing journey.
As for something about me that might surprise readers, I have five kids and have been married for almost two decades. I taught myself how to play the piano in high school and I have two sleeves of tattoos relevant to my kids, time in the military, and meaningful moments throughout my life.
Tell us the story of your book’s title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?
The story behind the title of Hysterical Hangouts with The Hindlegs is quite an amusing one, much like the book itself. Finding the perfect title was definitely an adventure, but one that I thoroughly enjoyed.
I wanted a title that captured the essence of the book—the hilarious antics and quirky dynamics of the Hindleg family using a reality show as a catalyst to tell the story. After brainstorming and bouncing ideas around for a while, the title just seemed to click. It perfectly encapsulated the wild ride that readers are about to embark on.
While it wasn’t necessarily easy to find, it was certainly worth the effort. Sometimes, the best things in life take a little time and creativity to uncover.
How did it feel when you first saw your book cover? Or when you first held your book in your hands?
As an author, seeing my book cover for the first time was an incredibly surreal and gratifying moment. It was the culmination of months of hard work, creativity, and collaboration with talented individuals who helped bring my vision to life. Holding the finished book in my hands was equally exhilarating. It was a tangible representation of countless hours spent crafting the story, refining the characters, and perfecting every word. There’s a unique sense of pride and accomplishment that comes with seeing your work in its final form, knowing that it will soon be shared with readers around the world. It’s a moment I’ll never forget, and one that serves as a constant reminder of why I love writing and storytelling.
If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?
If I were to curate a soundtrack to accompany the whimsical and unpredictable journey of the Hindleg family, I’d select songs that capture the essence of each character and the overall mood of the story. Here are a few tracks that come to mind:
“Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves: This upbeat and energetic tune reflects the Hindlegs’ zest for life and their ability to find humor in even the most absurd situations.
“Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey: A timeless anthem of hope and perseverance, this song mirrors Viktor Sniperbones’ resilience in the face of adversity.
“I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor: With its empowering lyrics and infectious rhythm, this song embodies Viktor’s determination to overcome obstacles and emerge stronger than ever.
“Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi: As Viktor navigates the ups and downs of family life and meeting his future in-laws for the first time, this rock classic serves as a reminder to keep pushing forward, no matter what challenges may arise.
“The Sound of Silence” by Simon & Garfunkel: This hauntingly beautiful ballad captures the quieter moments of introspection and reflection that punctuate the Hindlegs’ chaotic adventures.
These songs, each with their own unique energy and message, would create a dynamic soundtrack that mirrors the humor, heart, and unpredictability of Hysterical Hangouts with The Hindlegs.
What is one thing you hope readers take away from reading your book? How do you envision your perfect reader?
When it comes to what I hope readers take away from my book, I aim to provide them with a blend of entertainment and introspection that captivates them in a similar way a reality show might. Amidst the laughter and chaos of the Hindleg family’s antics, I hope readers find moments of reflection on the complexities of family dynamics, relationships, and the absurdities of everyday life.
My perfect reader is someone who appreciates humor, enjoys witty storytelling, and isn’t afraid to delve into the quirks and idiosyncrasies of family life. They’re open-minded, adventurous, and ready to embark on a journey filled with unexpected twists and turns. Whether they’re looking for a light-hearted escape or a deeper exploration of human nature, I hope my book resonates with them on multiple levels.

What new writing projects are you currently working on? Or, other projects that are not writing?
At present, I’m toying with the idea of another unique experience in the exciting world of writing, with a focus on the potential upcoming book, Rhyme Time Homicide.
This book delves into the twisted tale of Brock Savage, a young serial killer with an unusual dilemma. Set in the quaint town of Morbidsville it’s a darkly comedic tale that delves into the peculiar relationship between a young serial killer and his mother, Brenda, who happens to be a former convicted felon. Together, they navigate through Brock’s nocturnal adventures of murder, with Brenda offering her unique brand of advice and approval, with tons of humor along the way. The story is filled with twisted nursery rhymes, unexpected twists, and plenty of humor and suspense. The dynamic between Brock and his mother, Brenda, adds an intriguing layer to the narrative, blending humor, mystery, and suspense in unexpected ways.
In addition to Rhyme Time Homicide, I’m also exploring various creative projects outside of writing. From collaborating on podcast ventures to delving into the world of visual storytelling, I’m always seeking new avenues to express my creativity and engage with audiences in meaningful ways.
Overall, I’m excited to continue pursuing my passion for writing and storytelling, both through Rhyme Time Homicide and future projects that challenge and inspire me. Thank you once again for your interest, and I look forward to sharing more updates with you as my journey unfolds.
