Deep Time, by Townes Ferguson Green

This is a love story. Remember that.

Harvey and Em move across the country before the birth of their first child, hoping to make a life in a new city. Instead, they find a country choking on wildfire smoke, neighbors quietly preparing for violence, and things that look like men but are not. Their dog seems to age overnight. Voices weep through disconnected phones. Something green moves through the burning landscape, leaving life in its footsteps and ash behind.

As the ordinary terrors of marriage, parenthood, and inherited trauma begin to merge with ghosts, creatures of myth, and the essential strangeness of time, Harvey and Em struggle to hold on to one another—and to the future they thought they were building.

Funny, sad, and deeply unsettling, Deep Time is a novel about political dread, cosmic mystery, and two people trying to make a home in a world that may already be disappearing.

There is blood and fire in this book, but this is a love story. Remember that.
