What inspired you to start writing this book?
A member of a writing group asked for help on how to start an opening paragraph for a new book. I wrote an example of what I thought would be a good hook. I liked it and thought the paragraph could be the start of something special.
Tell us the story of your book’s current title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?
In the first book of the series, Olivia escapes a life destined for struggle and death to be transformed into a half-human half-beast. In Olivia’s Revenge, she is no longer the hunted, but the hunter.
Olivia is a supporting character in book one, but is the center of the story in book two.
Describe your dream book cover.
Olivia is viewed from behind as she walks through a gate made of bones. Beyond her is an ancient land of molten rock and suffering.
If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?
Great question. Evanescence, Bring Me to Life. Hall and Oates, Maneater.
What books are you reading (for research or comfort) as you continue the writing process?
The Holy Bible: Revelation.
What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?
I’ve worked as a speechwriter for state government.
Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?
Anton Chekov’s ability to weave words and story, bringing readers into his characters’ lives, inspired me to write.
Where is your favorite place to write?
On my couch, tapping at letters on my phone, with a cup of hot coffee to sip.
What advice would you give your past self at the start of your writing journey?
Write a little as often and regularly as you can. You can round out the rough edges later. Just keep in the habit of writing.
What’s one thing you hope sticks with readers after they finish your book?
I hope readers will explore their faith more. My faith in God and Jesus has brought me out of some dark places.
I include Bible verses in my books in hopes readers will expand on their reading of the Gospel.
