Natalie Horner lives in South Yorkshire with her husband, son, and a cat called Puss. When she isn’t daydreaming about her characters and stories, she’s writing about them instead.
Tell us the story of your book’s title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?
I knew the title from the very beginning. Wings just summed up my whole story. Simple yet effective. The subtitle came a lot later and that did take a little longer to decide on. But I needed a subtitle to bring my four books together and this was perfect.
How did it feel when you first saw your book cover? Or when you first held your book in your hands?
This was a surreal moment for me. I still don’t think it has sunk in yet. When I saw the cover, I thought ‘Wow, this is amazing.’ Then, I held the book in my hands, and it was more like ‘Wow this is really happening.’ Just utterly unreal.
Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?
I have always loved reading and writing ever since I was a little girl. I’d write stories and read books from all different genres. It was something I never thought more of; it was something I did as a hobby. But then I had the idea of the novel on holiday and I couldn’t stop thinking about it and I just thought, you know what, do it. Write it, and I fell in love with the process on a whole other level where now it’s part of my life more than it has ever been before and I don’t know where I’d be without writing and reading.
What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?
I’ve worked in all kinds of professions. Retail, education, health, and transport and construction. I’ve worked with so many different people and made so many friends from it too.
What was the most rewarding/meaningful part of publishing your book?
People just reading and enjoying my book. That’s the goal. That’s the dream.
If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?
I actually have a soundtrack in the back of the book. Some artists include Lana Del Ray, Placebo, Mumford and Sons, and Mazzy Star.
What is one thing you hope readers take away from reading your book? How do you envision your perfect reader?
I just want people to really enjoy it and invest in the story. It’s the first in four so it’s a journey and I hope people will read it and really want to know what happens.
What creative projects are you currently working on?
I’m working on book two to The Revelation’s Prophecy and I have some other fantasy projects that I keep adding to keep the creative juices flowing.
How was working with Atmosphere Press? What would you tell other writers who want to publish?
I have loved working with Atmosphere Press. I have really enjoyed the editing process, which taught me so much and made me fall in love with the process. Picking the front cover was hard but also so much fun. I appreciate everything they’ve done and all the support they’ve given me with my debut release.
