An Interview with Chirag Sainath

Chirag Sainath is a versatile Indian author whose literary journey began at the age of sixteen. Originally from Patna, Bihar, and currently based in Delhi, Chirag has built a diverse body of work that spans from poignant romance to gritty crime fiction.

He first stepped into the publishing world in 2021, showcasing a precocious talent for storytelling while still in high school. His early works, including Love is Fair or Unfair?! and the 2023 release Palash and Pakeezah, established his reputation for exploring the intricacies of the heart and the nuances of drama.

In 2026, Chirag pivoted to the thriller genre with the launch of Gentleman. Set against the complex backdrop of Bihar, the novel highlights his growth as a writer, blending sharp social observation with high-octane suspense. His writing is informed by his academic background in Delhi and his professional experience in journalism and content writing, lending a polished and authentic voice to his narratives.

Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?

I like to explore different experiences, different personalities, different situations, different psychologies and mindsets. Then for the sake of some curiosity, I analyze and evaluate them, and to do this better and efficiently, writing comes into the game. It eventually helps to evaluate such thing easily. With help of creativity, it becomes interesting to arrange such things in a plot, which eventually becomes a very crucial detail in itself. It not only helps in expressing such things but also helps in creating such a package which eventually lets others also know about it with high attention because of such plots and storyline.

What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?

Currently I am about to finish my bachelor’s in journalism and mass communication. Apart from studies, I’ve also been a national level athlete in martial arts and have also participated in some prestigious cricket tournaments. Currently I also take fitness classes of some clients of mine. So basically, there is one other side of mine which continuously explores, and in this side (writing), I try to express what I concluded and discovered.

Tell us the story of your book’s title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?

It was kind of easy, as it was about to tell people a story of real gentleman to make them understand that wearing a tie or pulling out a chair for their lady doesn’t make them a gentleman. It includes how you treat others, your intentions, decisions, and many more things.

What part of publishing your book made it feel real for the first time?

Including cryptic lessons, dark plots, several characters, and many more things. It’s always a new experience.

What’s one thing you hope sticks with readers after they finish your book?

There is a list for that, but I’ll mention some of them, such as that deadly climax scene without any weapons. Then use of ancient texts and their meaning to bridge two chapters and all of those texts carry deep intellectual meaning. Then they’ll remember the characters with different backstories and mindsets, which eventually makes readers think about who is really the victim. And last but not least, I haven’t mentioned any page numbers because I wanted that if the reader takes a break, whenever they come back they should remember the plot where they took the break. These things will create an immersive experience.

What was the most rewarding/meaningful part of publishing your book?

I wouldn’t say much, but yes, this thing will keep me alive even after my death!

What creative projects are you currently working on?

There are some projects in my line-up, such a psycho thriller, tragedy romance, and another part of Gentleman!
