Where books get their look

Meet the designers who make books stand out.

Meet the designers who make books stand out.

Book cover design is where your story meets its reader for the first time. Atmosphere Press treats that moment with care. Every cover we create is built to reflect what’s inside the book while standing confidently in the world it’s entering. Meet the designers who bring your book’s soul into form.

Kevin Stone

Kevin Stone Profile

I design book covers and interiors by distilling an author’s vision into a clear, compelling concept and bringing it to life in a way that feels both true to the work and visually striking. With over 25 years of experience across publishing, graphic design, web, and advertising (and a background in art and communication design from Pratt Institute) I draw on a lifelong passion for storytelling and visual expression. As an author myself (The Onion Ring Lovers Guide to Vermont), I understand both sides of the process.

From concept to final production, I see book covers through every stage: applying artwork to print templates for Kindle and IngramSpark, refining back cover typesetting, and ensuring every detail meets a high standard. Though I studied film, I’ve built a career in art and design, contributing to The Prequels Strike Back: A Fan’s Journey and serving as assistant teacher at the Texas Hill Country Atelier. I’m also a fine artist and pastelist, with work recognized by the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest and the Wishing Shelf Best Cover Awards.

Working as a cover artist and illustrator at Atmosphere Press, I turn author briefs into artwork that lives on the front of their books, collaborating closely with our art director to bring each vision to life. With a background in Digital Design and over a decade of experience, I returned to drawing in 2021 and quickly found my place in children’s book illustration while also developing a passion for cover design. Since then, I’ve created 150+ covers, illustrated 10+ children’s books, and published three fantasy novels.

As Art Director at Atmosphere Press, I lead our design team in creating covers that bring each book’s soul to the surface, making sure it’s as unforgettable visually as it is on the page. I’m a multi-disciplinary designer with nearly 20 years of experience, rooted in visual storytelling and shaped by work across editorial, branding, and packaging. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, I’ve collaborated with authors, editors, and illustrators across genres to elevate the look and feel of their stories.
