Had a career mostly in law and finance. Now live in Florida where I write and battle hurricanes.
Tell us the story of your book’s title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?
It was originally Rhea’s Rain Catcher, as Rhea is the ostensible woman he is struggling to return to. She makes rain catchers, upside down parachutes that collect rainwater for long-distance, cruising sailors. It is also her personal term of endearment for him. But since he returns to another woman, I needed to change it.
How did it feel when you first saw your book cover? Or when you first held your book in your hands?
Lovely cover. Atmosphere did a fine job with it.
Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?
I was born a daydreamer.
If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?
The singers would be Sinatra and Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis, Jr., Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong (my choice for greatest American ever), Bobby Darin, Robert Goulet, Ella, Judy, Peggy Lee, Linda Ronstadt, Karen Carpenter, Buddy Holly, Hank Williams.
What is one thing you hope readers take away from reading your book? How do you envision your perfect reader?
Perfect reader: A sixteen-year-old boy who sneaked it out of his parents’ library, or a retired gent living on a boat in the Florida Keys, sipping a beer and gnawing on a cigar.
What creative projects are you currently working on?
I’ve got a screenplay that a guy in Hollywood said he could sell as a ‘story.’ I dallied and that opportunity evaporated. I might rework it. I’ve got another novel that won an award from the Florid Writers Association that I need to polish.
How was working with Atmosphere Press? What would you tell other writers who want to publish?
Working with Atmosphere Press was a dream. They know what they are doing, are very professional, and very patient.
