A Trail in the Woods, by Mallory O’Connor

A Trail in the Woods begins with psychic detective Epiphany Mayall mourning the death of her friend and lover, PI Maro Gaido. In an attempt to console her, Epiphany’s son, Michael (a musician and faculty member at Linden College in Florida) convinces her to join him and her granddaughter, Maddie, for a couple of weeks of concerts and relaxation at Tanglewood Music Center.

But no sooner have they arrived at their vacation cottage in Lenox than a series of mysterious events draws Epiphany into a new and terrifying investigation involving a murdered heiress, a dead baby, a mysterious “school for the mentally ill,” and an evil demon who may have taken the form of the discredited immigrant historian Andras Kodar. How is Kodar connected to Epiphany’s mortal enemy, Derrick Rarian?

As Epiphany unravels the brutal story of Kodar and his ties to the evil Rarian, she seeks a way to bring them to justice—while also discovering more about her own powers and the Spirit Guide who will become her “forever companion.”
