Chimera in New Orleans, by Lauren Savoie
As a bloodthirsty chimera terrorizes his city, can Jake shift from downtrodden young man to unlikely hero?
One year after the passing of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Jake, an 18-year-old boy who has just graduated high school, finds himself depressed and unsure about his future, not to mention riddled with anxiety from being stuck in a seemingly endless cycle of poverty. Even so, Jake soon runs into bigger problems than figuring out who he is and who he wants to be.
A chimera stemming from the heart of the swamp begins to wreak havoc on the entire city of New Orleans, as it murders innocent citizens. Jake and his best friend Maggie distance themselves from their families and from society in order to take on a monster which is slowly bringing their city to an irreparable level of destruction.
They soon find assistance in the form of a shimmering, ghost-like girl named Gabriella. She helps Jake realize why he is the only one with the power to see the monster who remains only somewhat visible to everyone else…
