The Rain Catcher, by Dennis Dunigan

Beyond quirky, beyond hip, The Rain Catcher is an age-adjusted riff on Homer’s Odyssey that features:

Myles Kern, 72 (Odysseus). Triple-bypass convalescent.

Rhea McLeod, 70 (Penelope). Killed her first husband.

Sonny McLeod, 40 (Telemachus). Barnacle scraper.

Luc, 72 (Worthless Suitor). Beds Rhea, sort of.

And a maimed Calypso, soiled Sirens, and the Circe of Circes.

As old wounds reopen and secrets unravel—from a Nazi past to killings to betrayal after betrayal—can any of them reclaim what was lost, or will the storms of the past drown them all?

And will Myles Kern—after a lifetime of wrong turns and broken dreams; of striking out, running the wrong way, and dropping the ball; of battling divorce lawyers and plaintiff’s lawyers and IRS agents—find his way back to the woman, and the home, where he belongs?
