Dr. Nick Courtright
Founder & CEO
What I do for authors: As the Founder and CEO of Atmosphere Press, I set the vision for why and how we’re going to serve authors. I make sure our team is all pulling in the same direction to help our authors achieve their goals and receive a meaningful and rewarding publishing experience. It’s great to make a real difference in people’s lives!
What’s my background: In addition to steering good ship Atmosphere, I am the author of 4 books, including The Forgotten World and In Perfect Silence at the Stars: Walt Whitman and the Meaning of Poems. My writing has appeared in The Harvard Review, The Southern Review, SPIN Magazine, and more than 100 other publications. A former music journalist, I have a PhD in Literature, an MFA in Creative Writing, and a BSS in Written Expression, and I have taught literature, writing, and philosophy at a half-dozen institutions of higher learning.
Who I am: I grew up south of Cleveland (long-suffering sports fan here) as the oldest of six kids, but have lived in Austin for more than twenty years. I’m the father of two sons (my oldest can now drive a car–insane), and I love travel (40+ countries and all 50 states!), exercise, and trying to make a beautiful life.
Dr. Kyle McCord
Director of Acquisitions
What I do for authors: As the Director of Acquisitions for Atmosphere Press, I discuss publication offers with potential and current authors, and help select books for our catalog. I also check in with authors to ensure the book production process is running seamlessly!
What’s my background: I am the author of eight books including National Poetry Series Finalist Magpies in the Valley of Oleanders and the novel Reunion of the Good Weather Suicide Cult. My work has been featured or is forthcoming in AGNI, Blackbird, Boston Review, The Gettysburg Review, The Harvard Review, The Kenyon Review, Ploughshares, TriQuarterly, and elsewhere. I’ve received grants or awards from the Academy of American Poets, the Vermont Studio Center, and the Baltic Writing Residency. I hold an M.F.A. from University of Massachusetts-Amherst and a Ph.D. from the University of North Texas.
Who I am: I have two very small children—Auggie and Sylvia. My wife and I live in Des Moines and enjoy going to movies and puzzling out escape rooms. We also share our home with a bunny, kitty, and corgi puppy.
Alex Kale
Book Production Director
What I do for authors: As Book Production Director, I see all Atmosphere books through the entire production process – including developmental editing, proofreading, and interior design. It’s quite the journey!
What’s my background: I graduated from Concordia University with a BA in English in 2016, and I earned my MFA from Texas State in Creative Writing in 2020. Since then, I’ve taught writing at both the high school and college level – leading creative workshops and rhetorical analyses all the same! Before my role as Book Production Director, I was a proofreader and developmental editor at Atmosphere, and I’ve been working with full-length fiction, nonfiction, and poetry manuscripts for over a decade. My creative work has been published in Coe Review, Wussy Mag, and Porter House Review.
Who I am: In my free time, I’m an illustrator, ceramicist, yoga instructor, budding home chef, and a massive Buffalo Bills fan. On the weekends, I am always on a trail somewhere in Colorado with my family – hiking, bird noticing, or working on my fly-fishing skills.
Megan Sells
Acquisitions Manager & Developmental Editor
What I do for authors: As an Acquisitions Manager and Developmental Editor at Atmosphere Press, I help authors navigate hybrid publishing contracts, and shape their manuscripts into powerful, polished books ready for publication. I’m passionate about storytelling craft and helping writers deepen their characters and tighten their narratives. Nothing beats the thrill of seeing a story click into place. I also manage our conference program and team, representing Atmosphere Press at writing conferences around the country!
My background: I hold an M.F.A. in Acting and Directing from the University of Missouri–Kansas City, and before joining the publishing world, I spent years developing new plays with theatre companies like the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Kansas City Repertory Theatre. That background gives me a uniquely embodied, character-driven approach to editing. I’ve edited over two dozen books across genres like speculative fiction, YA/MG, and memoirs. I’m also a featured speaker at Writing Day Workshops, The Fiction Lab and other workshops focused on narrative technique.
Who I am: I’m a speculative fiction fanatic, an obsessed pet parent, and a sucker for a good thrift store find. I live in Tulsa, OK in a household containing 3 cats, 3 dogs, and 3 humans. (okay… 5 cats if we’re counting the two neighborhood cats that hang out on the porch!) When I’m not editing or writing, you’ll find me daydreaming about horses or hunting down the perfect weird coffee mug.
Claire Denson
Book Publication Manager
What I do for authors: I work behind the scenes ensuring all the metadata matches up with your book files, uploading your book to the distributor, and managing your publication details. I work closely with the corrections, distribution, and publicity teams and keep everyone’s publication timeline on track. I’m also proud to be on the Atmo editorial board. I’ve been with Atmosphere Press since 2021 and feel lucky to be here—my coworkers are simply the best!
What’s my background: I am a writer myself, with poems published in The Iowa Review, The Missouri Review, and The Cincinnati Review among other such journals. I’m a Teaching Artist with the National Book Foundation in NYC, sometimes work as a florist, and hold a BA from University of Michigan and an MFA in Creative Writing from UNC-Greensboro. I’ve been on the editorial staff of the Adroit Journal, The Greensboro Review, Girl Blood Info Zine, and judged a book contest for Sarabande Books. I love the literary world and am passionate about making your book exactly how you want it to be.
Who I am: In my free time, I spend hours roller blading through Brooklyn Bridge Park, playing soccer and basketball with friends, screaming emo songs at the karaoke machine, making countless Spotify playlists to sort through my feelings, journaling in Cobble Hill Park, reading and writing poetry, thinking about the soul, and living with a childlike wonder.
Suzanne Bradshaw
Book Production Manager
What I do for authors: As Book Production Manager, I oversee your book’s journey from manuscript to print. I coordinate between departments—editorial, proofreading, cover design, and interior design—to keep your project moving smoothly. I’ll be your guide throughout production, answering questions and communicating timelines. There’s nothing more gratifying than seeing an author’s words become fully realized!
What’s my background: I earned my BFA in New Media & Design and spent years coordinating creative projects and designing books before becoming a project manager. This background gives me a strong foundation in both the creative and operational sides of book-making—I understand what makes a book compelling and what’s required to make it happen.
Who I am: I grew up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina and currently live and work in beautiful Savannah, GA, with my trusty sidekick, Penny Gail (my dog). I appreciate beautiful things, good food, and little details—both in life and in books!
Ronaldo Alves
Art Director
What I do for authors: As Art Director at Atmosphere Press, I lead our talented design team in crafting visually compelling covers that bring each book’s soul to the surface. I’m here to make sure your book doesn’t just read beautifully—it looks unforgettable, too.
What’s my background: I’m a multi-disciplinary graphic designer with nearly two decades of experience in visual storytelling. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I studied design and branding before diving into the publishing world. My work has spanned editorial design, visual identity, and packaging, all of which inform my approach to book cover design. Over the years, I’ve collaborated with authors, editors, and illustrators across genres to elevate the look and feel of their stories.
Who I am: Despite being Brazilian, I’m truly terrible at soccer. When I’m not thinking about design, I’m probably training Brazilian jiu-jitsu or out at the theater catching a play.
Cassandra Felten-Schmidt
Interior Design Manager
What I do for authors: As the leader of our Interior Book Design team, I have experience in many aspects of book publishing, but layout is where I found my passion. Now, I love helping every Atmosphere author perfect their book’s pages before it falls into the hands of readers – and new fans!
What’s my background: My publishing experience began at Indiana University’s many presses, where I worked as editor, proofreader, and designer. I graduated in December 2020 with a bachelor’s in English literature and minors in creative writing and psychology. I also love to write fiction, with short stories published in Analecta, Brainchild, and PAN-O-PLY, and I am currently working on my debut horror novel.
Who I am: I am a Midwest girl through and through, moving from my childhood home in Indiana to my first house in Michigan. When not reading or writing, I might be playing video games, drawing, putting together a LEGO kit, or playing with my four beloved cats.
Dakota Reed
Children’s Book Editor
What I do for authors: As Head of the Children’s Book Department, I guide authors through every stage of the publishing process—from shaping their manuscripts to designing interiors that bring their stories to life. I am passionate about helping each author’s vision shine and making the journey feel joyful, collaborative, and creatively fulfilling.
What’s my background: I received my MFA from the College of Charleston, where I was a Woodfin Fellow and an editorial assistant at swamp pink (formerly Crazyhorse). I hold a BA from the University of Georgia, where I worked on the editorial staff of The Georgia Review. My poems have appeared in North American Review, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Ghost City Review, Blood Orange Review, The Shore, and elsewhere, earning awards and honors from the Poetry Society of South Carolina, AWP, and the College of Charleston.
Who I am: Currently based in Brooklyn, I love cooking, dancing, and swimming in any body of water I can find.
Lisa Mottolo
Assistant Editor
What I do for authors: I provide information on Atmosphere to potential authors, and if you are an Atmosphere author who receives a gift in the mail from us, that was sent by me!
What’s my background: I am author of the poetry collection How to Monetize Despair (Unsolicited Press, 2023) and the Founding Editor at Lit Fox Books. I have attended writing programs at UC Berkeley and Kenyon College, and my work has appeared in Penn Review, The Laurel Review, Diagram, Santa Clara Review, Stonecoast Review, Louisiana Literature, and others.
Who I am: I’m a lover of birds and animals in general. In my home you will find four adopted parrots and a free roaming rabbit. Besides tinkering with poems and obsessing over birds, you can find me consuming wellness elixirs and reorganizing my shrines.
Kali Stevens
Brand Manager
What I do for authors: Through creative strategy, bold design, and a poetic sensibility that often finds its way into branding copy, my goal is to make marketing feel a whole lot less overwhelming. I help shape Atmosphere’s messaging and experiences to empower authors to feel confident in their voice.
What’s my background: I fell in love with poetry at the age of eight. I learned that expressing myself didn’t have to feel scary when in metaphor and prose form! From working as a college writing tutor, to being named one of Boswell Books’ Best of Undergraduate Creative Writers, and launching my career at American Girl (a brand whose books I grew up reading), I’ve felt grateful to have creativity and storytelling shape my professional path. Today, I bring over a decade of experience to my work in marketing and brand strategy.
Who I am: Based in Milwaukee, WI, I’m a proud Wisconsinite who never misses a chance to talk books, creativity, or storytelling with fellow art lovers. I’m still an avid poet, a fan of cozy coffee shop corners, and I believe dancing to throwback music in the kitchen absolutely counts as cardio. I cheer loudly for the Milwaukee Bucks and never expected to become a “cat person,” until I found Athens and Bruckner, who won me over with their biscuit-making skills and tiny squeaks.
Madison Manning
Social Media Services Manager
What I do for authors: As a Social Media Assistant for Atmosphere Press, I create tailored content and strategy to help authors connect with readers and build their literary presence across platforms. I bring energy, creativity, and a deep understanding of digital storytelling to every campaign—whether it’s crafting launch plans, designing posts, or developing engagement strategies.
What’s my background: Holding a degree in Marketing, my professional background spans nearly a decade in branding, content development, audience growth, and digital strategy across multiple industries. I’m passionate about using my skills to uplift authors and amplify meaningful stories in today’s media landscape.
Who I am: Based in Orlando, I’m a lifelong lover of books, travel, and the written word. When I’m not working with authors, I’m probably snuggled up with my cat Cowboy either reading, writing, or planning my next getaway.
Erin Larson-Burnett
Proofreader & SEO Manager
What I do for authors: I am a proofreader at Atmosphere Press, ensuring manuscripts are polished to perfection. I also create back-of-book teasers for authors and manage the Advice for Writers blog. My work spans a range of editorial and creative tasks that support authors throughout the publishing process!
What’s my background: I am currently thriving as a reader, writer, editor, and professional book recommender. After studying English literature and composition at the University of St. Thomas, I gained a foothold in the publishing world proofreading test prep books before finding my dream job collaborating with authors at Atmosphere Press. I’ve been a proofreader since 2018 and am also the author of two award-winning novels, The Bear & the Rose and A Madness Unmade, with more always in the works.
Who I am: A proud homebody, I live in Katy with my husband—yes, the gamer to my reader—and our two rescued furbabies, plus one very entitled tortoise. I come from a big Texas family and never tire of playing board games or building Lego sets.
Mia Coombs
Book Publicity Manager
What I do for authors: As Book Publicity Manager at Atmosphere Press, I help books move from paper to the public. It is incredibly rewarding to accompany readers on their journey to discovering new books, as well as giving authors the attention their creation deserves.
What’s my background: I was born in London, England where I studied English Literature & Film Studies at King’s College London, graduating with honors. With a background in entertainment and media, I love working creatively, and connecting with others through art and stories. Having worked in bookselling, the publishing world has provided me with a fascinating insight into the lifecycle of literature. In addition, I have a breadth of experience with digital media, campaign marketing, and event planning.
Who I am: As a budding New Englander, I love exploring new towns, restaurants, and hiking trails. When I’m not trying a new recipe or relaxing with a cup of tea and a book, you’ll find me at the movie theatre!
Matthew Fielder
Cover Designer
What I do for authors: In addition to designing book covers I also handle the application of all Atmosphere cover art to the print templates that go out to both Kindle and Ingram Spark. This means I’m responsible for the final quality control of all cover art as well as all post-approval edits, back cover typesetting, and praise blurb additions. In many instances, I’m there beside a book cover from start to finish.
What’s my background: Although I studied film in college rather than art, I never fully abandoned my artistic pursuits. I produced and provided artwork for the Star Wars documentary The Prequels Strike Back: A Fan’s Journey and I am now the assistant teacher at the Texas Hill Country Atelier. Besides my design work for Atmosphere, I am a fine artist and an avid pastelist. My science-fiction artwork has made me a finalist in the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest and my cover art for Teri Brown’s An Enemy Like Me (Atmosphere Press) won Silver in the Wishing Shelf Best Cover Awards in 2023.
Who I am: I currently live in the Texas Hill Country, smack dab between Comfort and Kerrville. If I’m not painting or designing book covers, I’m probably working in my garden, feeding horses, or hanging out with my four cats. But, sometimes, it’s nice to go in from the heat and read a book, watch a movie, or play a good video game.
Kevin Stone
Cover Designer
What I do for authors: I make cover design and interior design. I like to think I facilitate and elevate. I take the author’s vision and I try to find that core idea. That image that speaks to what is the essence of their work and bring it succinctly to life. And I like to make it look as cool as possible while doing that.
What’s my background: My whole life I’ve had a passion for the written word and art. I’m very lucky to find a vocation that lets me tap into both those life ling inspirations. I studied art and communication design at Pratt Institute. I’ve got over 25 years plus of expertise not only in the publishing industry, but in graphic design, we, and advertising as well. I draw from all those experiences in everything I do. In addition to designing books, I’ve written one as well, so I know both sides of the process. (author of The Onion Ring Lovers (Guide to Vermont) a novel.
Who I am: I love movies, books, culture, news and art. I am continuously and eternally fascinated by our world, and the pursuit of knowledge. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, not because of the food, but as the cook in the house, preparing a meal for my family and juggling the logistics of having it all come together at the right time.
Dr. Trista Edwards

What I do for authors: I get to be the very first champion for our authors at Atmosphere Press! As an Acquisitions and Developmental Editor, I’m at the heart of the publishing process, guiding manuscripts from their initial submission to a polished, professional final product. I love nothing more than diving into a new manuscript and helping writers polish their work to bring their creative vision to life.
What’s my background: My own passion for great writing began with my literary pursuits. I’ve got the degrees to prove it, too: a B.A. and an M.A. in English from the University of West Georgia, plus a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from the University of North Texas. I published my debut poetry collection, Spectral Evidence, in 2020, and have had the joy of working as an editor on several anthologies and at various literary journals. My extensive experience as an editor has given me a serious eye for what makes a manuscript truly shine.

Today, I’ve created over 150 covers and illustrated more than ten children’s books. I’m also an independent fantasy author and have published three novels since 2022.

Asata Radcliffe

What I do for authors: The best analogy that I read one day is that working with an editor is like an author building their dream home and I am the architect to help bring your vision to life. For me, the editorial experience is collaborative, where I offer craft feedback, and honest critique that helps writers get to the heart of what they want from their project. Storytellers are vital to this world and I value every writer’s story. It’s not about how many novels you write. It’s about writing a good novel.
What’s my background: My editorial life began over 10 years ago starting in college. Professionally, during my years at Kirkus, I was mentored by a fabulous editor who I credit for my success as an editor. As a college professor and educator, I taught literature and creative writing. I’m currently working on my third novel.
Who I am: When I’m not editing or writing, you can find me hosting writers at my writing residency program on Lake Michigan in Chicago, gardening, swing dancing, and walking with my Italian greyhound.
Bryce Wilson
Developmental Editor
What I do for authors: As Developmental Editor, I honestly feel that the most important thing that I do for my authors is provide a fresh set of eyes. In my experience by the time the author gets to me they’ve been working on the book they can no longer “see” it. It’s my job to help them get back to that place, to recognize the core relationship that makes the book work, to let them see that there’s a key scene or pay off missing, to help them recognize how to turn an old cliche into a fresh scene, or how to burnish the thematic core of the work without overpowering the reader. I often start a session by telling an author that it’s not my job to change a book, but to help them lean in to what makes their work unique.
What’s my background: My background as a writer and editor comes from both nonfiction and fiction. I have extensive experience as a journalist and critic, and have worked as an editor for Atmosphere for over five years. In addition to this I have a Masters degree in Library and Information Science and am an omnivorous and generous reader.
Who I am: I’ve lived in Austin for fifteen years, though I root for Cleveland sports teams for some reason. I’m a father, an avid hiker and a five time marathon runner. I spend too much time on Letterboxd.
Mario Major
Developmental Editor
What I do for authors: I am one of several Developmental Editors at Atmosphere. My work is aimed at compassionately guiding authors through the process of making revisions that will best serve the story. Always in service to the vision of the writer, I work closely with them to identify ways to enhance the reader’s experience. In addition, I am also part of Atmosphere’s team of Proofreaders, which involves making sure that the grammar and formatting fully support the message of the book.
What’s my background: A graduate of Boston University, I have also worked as an educator and linguist. Now focusing my creative energies on writing and visual art, my entry into the world of publishing came after several years supporting authors as a developmental editor and literary translator (Turkish to English & Russian to English).
Who I am: When I’m not working with authors, I enjoy developing recipes, reading, writing, painting, interior design, fitness, and lots of travel.
Mike Robinson
Developmental Editor
What I do for authors: Much as possible, I aim to be your book’s first ideal reader: the one who seeks to understand the ambitions and inspirations behind the story, and what drove you not only to the first page, but all the way to the last. Through comprehensive but constructive developmental editing, I aim to help you connect ever more sharply and uniquely to your work.
What’s my background: I started selling short stories professionally when I was 19. Since then, I’ve written – roughly – a novel a year. I’ve traditionally published twelve of them, including a sale to Amazon Audible, as well as thirty-plus short stories in outlets such as Clarkesworld, American Gothic Fantasy, Storyteller, Underland Arcana, Cirsova and many more. I’ve been editing for over fifteen years and have worked with and/or coached hundreds of authors. From 2012 – 2018, I was the managing editor for Literary Landscapes, the digital publication of GLAWS, the Greater Los Angeles Writers Society.
Who I am: As someone brought up in West LA, I’m a 70 / 30 split between city and nature dweller. I’m a hiker, camper, swimmer, cinephile, dog parent and semi-pro illustrator who loves drawing wildlife. Never having learned an instrument, I’m now fumbling my way around the didgeridoo.
Chris Beale
Proofreader
What I do for authors: I carefully review authors’ manuscripts to ensure clarity, consistency, and polish before publication. As a lifelong reader, I love being part of the creative process – getting a behind-the-scenes look at stories in progress and helping authors bring their work to a more professional, refined level. It’s incredibly rewarding to contribute to their journey.
What’s my background: My proofreading journey started at Cambridge University Press, where I worked on various theses and technical publications. I then progressed into newspapers before freelancing at various design agencies in London. I then started my own proofreading company, where, among many other projects, I worked on the very first few editions of UK GAAP and also worked with Michelin, helping with their travel guides around Europe.
Who I am: I live in the north-east of England with my wife, grown-up son and two dogs, Ruby and Rocco, who are miniature Dachshunds. I am a keen photographer, creating wall art in my spare time; I love to run and take part in local 10k and half-marathon events. My favourite sports teams are Tottenham Hotspur, the Collingwood Magpies, and the San Francisco 49ers.
Casey Chandler
Proofreader
What I do for authors: I’m a proofreader: an author’s last line of defense when it comes to spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Seeking out and correcting the smallest of errors is my extreme sport. The satisfaction of spotting a straight apostrophe where a curly one should be? That’s what I live for.
What’s my background: I have a Bachelor of Communications (Journalism) and have worked in newspapers and magazines for almost 20 years. My roles as a journalist and editor have given me an appreciation for clarity, brevity, and consistency. I’m a lifelong bookworm who’s always spotted errors in my favourite reads. Now I get to catch them before they go to print.
Who I am: I’m an Aussie wife and mum whose AFL team (St Kilda) hasn’t won a premiership in almost 60 years. Charlie Westerman
Developmental Editor
What I do for authors: As someone who first went through the publishing experience with Atmosphere from an author’s perspective, I do not see my role as an editor as “putting my stamp” on someone else’s work, but as someone trying to understand the author’s penultimate vision and do what I can to help them actualize the final draft. It always made me bats as a writer when someone would critique my work, but not be able to point to specific places on the page they were seeing the holes in it. I believe that all good stories no matter the genre have a compelling plot and themes with stakes the reader is invested in, relatable and inspiring characters, an appreciation for beautiful writing and a rich economy of storytelling that mesmerizes the reader into effortlessly turning the page.
My background: I grew up on a cattle ranch in Chugwater, Wyoming, then graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Journalism and English Literature in May of 2012. After college, I moved to Portland, Oregon, working as a school bus driver and writing my first novel at coffee shops between my morning and afternoon routes. In 2020, I completed The Book Project with Lighthouse Writers in Denver, CO where I currently reside. After two years teaching English and Creative Writing to high schoolers in the area, I published Where Heaven Meets Cheyenne with Atmosphere Press in October of 2024 and am currently in the process of publishing my second novel, SEEK> with the same amazing people I now work with as a Developmental Editor.
Who I am: I married my beautiful Whitney in July of 2024, then brought my beautiful son, Milo, into the world in May 2025. I also enjoy my mutt Rudy and cat Tillie, great literary fiction, songwriting, the Green Bay Packers, traveling, cleverness, the art of conversation, colorful language, a great album, building depth of flavor in the kitchen and watching old sitcoms before bed when I should be reading more books. Also, Jesus is still alright with me.
Niccolo Mejia
Distribution Coordinator
What I do for authors: I process final book files, send them off to the printer, and make sure every detail is in order before launch date! When I’m not doing that, I optimize our Advice for Writers blog so authors can easily find writing or publishing information they need.
What’s my background: I have a B.F.A in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College. Who I am: I am a passionate, ambitious writer who loves fantasy, rich themes, and bold characters. Graphic novels, animation, and film are my strongest inspirations, but I build my style from my background in literature. When I’m not writing or creating, I’m spending time cooking with my family and gaming with my close friends.

Luis Ramos
Interior Book Designer
What I do for authors: I am an interior book designer who works consistently with the visuals of long-form text and the hierarchical clarity of a book’s content. Above all, I strive for design cohesiveness within a book’s entire presentation package, because in my experience, interior design is often an afterthought for publishers. I’m also a relentless proofreader and scour manuscripts until I’ve found as many typographical errors as possible to deliver a book that I myself would feel proud publishing.
What’s my background: I have a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a master’s degree in book publishing, so yes, I love books. I’ve always wanted to work with books in some way, and I’m happy to have landed in publishing. While I was once tempted to pursue editorial work, I ultimately realized that my true passion was in design. I’ve worked at many places, including Barnes & Noble as a bookseller, Ooligan Press as a book project manager, Red Hen Press as a book graphic designer, and Friendzy as a K–12 curriculum designer. I also run my own freelance book design business, and design book covers, interiors, and eBooks. Who I am: I live in the beautiful city of Portland, Oregon, where the trees are so green, and the air is as clean as I’ve ever breathed it. I’m a nerd at heart and love all things pop culture: books, movies, anime, video games, you name it. I co-host a podcast with my wife where we discuss our love of horror films. I have a blue heeler named Tali’Zorah, for those of you who know, you know. Lastly, I’m a writer as well, and I primarily write science fiction with a touch of my culture and a bit of magical realism. Some of my biggest writing influences include Isabel Allende, Arthur C. Clarke, and Charles Dickens (I wrote my entire thesis on Dickens, so let there be no question about it: I am a certified book nerd).

I help authors navigate the myriad publishing options and choose the right one for them, and I love talking with writers about their work and helping get new stories out into the world.
What’s my background: My passion for editorial work grew naturally out of my life-long love of reading, and my own writing practice has also strengthened my editorial ethos. I received a B.A. in English with emphases in Creative Writing and Editing & Publishing from Whitworth University in Spokane, WA, and I have a combined 9+ years in editorial and writing roles, including work on lit mags and newspapers.
Who I am: I am a life-long resident of the Pacific Northwest, and a queer femme poet, print-maker, fiber artist, and optimist. I enjoy making art, reading weird books, raising chickens, building community, activism, and helping other people bring their stories to life. When not immersed in the editing and publishing world, I am probably trying to crochet while my cats demand cuddles or staring at my computer screen hoping a new poem will manifest itself.
Todd Conly

What I do for authors: I help aspiring authors find their publishing home and take the first exciting steps toward bringing their book to life. My goal is to connect with writers who have something meaningful to say, guide them through the publishing process with confidence, and make sure they feel supported from that very first conversation.
What’s my background: I have over 15 years of experience in publishing, author development, operations, and marketing, with a strong emphasis on building relationships and guiding authors through complex processes with clarity and confidence. My background spans traditional publishing, hybrid publishing, and direct publishing services, experience that has shaped my understanding of what it takes to help an author move from idea to published book. That experience has shaped my ability to connect with authors quickly, build trust, and ensure they feel supported every step of the way.
Who I am: I am based in the Boston area and when I’m not working with authors, you’ll find me hiking, skiing, or spending time in Maine. I’m an enthusiastic audiophile who loves hunting down classic vinyl albums and listening to them with my dog.
Aaron Salzman
Acquisitions Editor
What I do for authors: As an acquisitions editor, my role is centered on discovery first and foremost, discovering whether authors and Atmosphere Press are a strong fit. Publishing is a complicated process that takes a tremendous amount of work and care, and your book deserves to receive that attention and end up in the right hands.

Gabriel Morales
Interior Book Designer
What I do for authors: An interior book designer’s best work is invisible. Like black-clad theatrical stage crew flowing through the dark, I set everything in its proper place, creating an effortless and captivating experience for the audience. I take pride in professional, meticulous work that honors each author’s vision, gladly beaming from the shadows as the readers celebrate our stars — for I, too, am a fan of every author here at Atmosphere.
What’s my background: I have been an Adobe software aficionado since the early 2000s. In the publishing world, I have proofread, edited, and designed covers and interiors for novels and picture books.
Who I am: My caffeine and chocolate addictions are kept (mostly) in check by a newfound love for running 5Ks. I’ve worked my way up to running five or six per week and hope to one day compete in races with other aging Gen Xers. The rest of my free time is filled with gardening, cooking with/for my beautiful wife, binging British TV, and filling blank Word docs with narrative musings of my own.

Some of you may also recognize me from my time on Big Brother.
Chris Sollog

What’s my background: My love for artist management is supported through a BA in Cinema Art and Science at Columbia College Chicago. After earning my degree and working on multiple music and film festival circuits, I went on to found M-F Collective, an art collective connecting emerging creatives to the resources available in their community. Through this venture, I feel incredibly lucky to oversee the development of projects of a diverse range of mediums and advocate for artists pursuing their craft.
Who I am: Currently based in Tulsa, I spend my time exploring the city’s growing arts scene and soaking up nature any chance I get. I believe laughter is the best medicine and love showing up for my friends however I can!
Consuwella Carrington
Proofreader
What I do for authors: As a proofreader at Atmosphere Press, I spend my days doing what I’ve loved since childhood: reading books and spotting what doesn’t belong! As the final set of eagle eyes before publication, I closely examine manuscripts for clarity, consistency, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Books are magical, and I love being part of the process that helps bring them to readers.
What’s my background: Before entering the publishing world, I worked as an ESL teacher in South Korea and later taught English online to students around the globe. Along the way, I realized that the proofreading skills I used every day in the classroom translated perfectly to editing manuscripts, which led me to build a career as a freelance copyeditor and proofreader. Thanks to a curious mind, you’ll often find me with my nose in a book—or your manuscript—whether it’s a swoony romance, a twisty mystery, a memoir, a self-help book, or something in between!
Who I am: When I’m not reading, you’ll likely find me exploring somewhere new. I love traveling, meeting people from around the world, and collecting stories of my own along the way. During a trip to the Caribbean, I decided to give sailing a try, and I’ve been hooked ever since!
Tricia Bohanon
Book Production Coordinator
What I do for authors: As a Book Production Coordinator, I ensure that all goes smoothly during the publishing process so that authors can trust the process. Moving a book from idea to fruition is deeply rewarding and I’m thrilled to be part of the Atmosphere Press team dedicated to bringing your book to life.
What’s my background: I have a master’s degree in library science and worked many years serving the public in a variety of communities. While no longer working in a public library, I still consider my identity to be deeply interwoven to libraries through excellent customer service, a love of books, and an ability to sift through information to find the golden nugget. I’ve presented at state and national library conferences, won awards, and written several professionally published articles about library programming that opens the library doors to diverse and underserved neurodivergent populations. I’m also a freelance editor, who enjoys finding those oh-so-slippery typographic errors and polishing up a manuscript.
Who I am: Post-library career, I’ve worked a variety of jobs. I’ve worked as a barista and now make delicious concoctions with my own espresso machine. I’m a 500-HR RYT who actively teaches a broad range of yoga styles at several studios. Vinyl is a huge passion of mine. Currently, I’m listening to my entire 1,400-album collection from A to Z in an effort to weed some out (yet also enjoy each one)! I also love being near water (not in it), hiking, and getting lost in thrift stores and antique malls.
Mark Yudt
Website Designer
What I do for authors: I build and maintain the websites that give authors a real home on the internet. That means making sure every site looks great, loads fast, works on every device, and actually helps an author connect with readers. I take the technical side seriously so authors don’t have to.
What’s my background: I grew up outside of Allentown, PA. I always ask people if they’ve heard the Billy Joel song. During my college years I interned at MTV Animation, made some fun animations, and ran the scoreboard for the Phillies. I was also on the Disney College Program which then got me the opportunity to play Goofy, Genie, Jafar, and the Beast. Then I moved south to Miami where I worked for a news channel, a PBS station, brought the internet to airlines, and even ran the scoreboard for the Marlins. I ended up back in Orlando where I was a web designer for Hard Rock, then a web developer for Earl Enterprises, SharkNinja, and Fujifilm before finding my way to Atmosphere Press.
Who I am: I’m laid back and easy to get along with. I’d rather play a sport than watch one, though I grew up a Phillies fan. When I’m not in front on the computer I love mountain biking, the beach, yard work, and pool time. Any chance I get I’m on a plane to Panama!

What’s my background: I’ve worked in book publishing for over eight years, previously as the Vice President of Author Relations for an independent publishing company, where I guided hundreds of authors through all steps of their book publishing process, from initial manuscript to publication. I liaised between my authors and our team of designers, cover artists, editors, and illustrators, ensuring my author’s book projects stayed on track, their expectations were met if not exceeded, and their journey was enjoyable. I am also humbled to have been included in a number of my author’s acknowledgments, which I take as a very high honor.
Who I am: I enjoy spending time with my family, at concerts, hiking, or out exploring a new park. I am a watercolor painter and a member of the Central Ohio Plein Air group. We travel to different locations each Saturday to paint on location. Painting in nature, listening to the birds in a beautiful location is my jam!

What I do for authors: As an Atmosphere author myself, I know how excitement there can be waiting for the next draft to arrive in your author folder. My job is to make that process as quick as possible and to remove any unnecessary friction so you (and the rest of our awesome team) can focus on the art.
What’s my background: I graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in English and History in 2023, and I’m currently pursuing an MFA in fiction at the University of Central Florida. My debut fantasy novel, Witch in the Wall (2026), was published by Atmosphere Press.
Who I am: In my spare time, I’m a competitive Warhammer 40,000 player who enjoys completing Connections every morning with my fiancée, horrifying my two cats, traveling to strange places, and long walks (not on the beach).
