Adam grew up in Sydney in the 1970s doing all the usual things, like playing footy, talking too much in class, and playing music.
Adam and his father, William Shaw Warnock (Samurai Kites, Danzigers Cut, and Frozen Secrets), shared something in their lives that impelled them both to start writing, with William losing his kidneys to nephritis and Adam being diagnosed with young Parkinson’s disease, both in their thirties.
Adam has two children, Gus and Bede, and lives with his wife, Kat, on the Central Coast of NSW, Australia.
This is Adam’s debut novel, called Jack Spetza — Flawed.
Tell us the story of your book’s title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?
I had a bunch of working titles like The Orb, The House of Setrine, and an assortment of other, ordinary titles. There was a moment when I was writing, and I changed the direction of the book, and then it was like a bolt of lightning, and the title is now part of a trilogy.
How did it feel when you first saw your book cover? Or when you first held your book in your hands?
I was totally impressed with Renaldo and his team, nailing it the first time with a very nuanced cover.
Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?
My wife gave me a writing course for my birthday, and I loved it.
What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?
I have worked in film, music production, and touring most of my life.
What was the most rewarding/meaningful part of publishing your book?
From start to finish, everyone involved with my book did what they said they were going to do.
If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?
A blend of tracks to convey the storyline and characters.
What is one thing you hope readers take away from reading your book? How do you envision your perfect reader?
Luck favours the brave, so when saving the world, at least try to have some fun.
And my perfect reader is someone who thoroughly enjoys the characters, along with the mood of the book.
What creative projects are you currently working on?
Part two of the Jack Spetza trilogy.
How was working with Atmosphere Press? What would you tell other writers who want to publish?
Outstanding, and I would show them my book.
