To consider who I am as a writer, there was a time in my life when writing became a way for me to escape to some other reality than my own. Now, I am the author of six self-published books and counting. Never thinking about my pain or struggles or just my existence as being something exciting or worthy to talk about, but God always gives us a testimony. The passion to write started in high school, and in her early twenties, experiencing vivid dreams, Amethyst in Love and Detective Brenda Sayers: Mercy Undercover 2024. I created Nita Nae’s Books—Truthful Imagination to feed the imagination of readers. There were many dreams that followed, which generated other books, such as Apocalyptic 7: Salvation’s Cry, birthed from a dream during my writing alluded to in Unconditional Counsel. Six novels have since followed – The Ghosts of Slavery’s Dance, Unconditional Counsel 2: Fate Unbroken, Apocalyptic 8: Angels of Heaven’s Army, The Container, Opposing Fruit, and co-authorship for Embrace the Dawn: To Live Again with Margo Leonard (my mom – 2024, Amazon.com).
What inspired you to start writing this book?
In my dream, a child’s spirit was stuck in a Ronald McDonald stuffed toy; my police officer friend and I were in the dream, and we had to save the child, and when we saved the little boy, other children were released too. This triggered a writing spell during which the story took on a mind of its own when I started learning about trafficking and all its forms. So, I wanted to shine a light on the subject and write an interesting and encouraging story.
Tell us the story of your book’s current title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?
It wasn’t so much that it was hard to find, but when I started researching trafficking and imagining all the containers that are used, it just came to me: There’s organ trafficking and they use containers. Trafficking of children, women, and slave labor. What do they use to transport and hold people hostage? A house can be a container also.
Describe your dream book cover.
I wanted to write a supernatural story, so I wanted it to highlight a house where the children’s spirits were being held within an open wooded area.
If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?
So Will I (100 Billion Xs).
What books are you reading (for research or comfort) as you continue the writing process?
I had listened to the news about a ring that was busted in New Jersey about organ trafficking, and I did a lot of research of other stories of trafficking on the internet, as well as scriptures within the Bible about hurting children.
What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?
I’ve worked in social services as an administrative coordinator to a manager at non-profit agencies for twenty-three years, and I am currently a police performance auditor for a major city, and I’ve been doing that for nine years and counting.
Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?
I’ve been writing since my early twenties. My high school English teacher fanned the flame for me in high school. He encouraged creativity while we studied poems, writing, the constitution, and various forms of drama.
Where is your favorite place to write?
I can write anywhere if it’s a quiet place. I’ve even written in my car.
What advice would you give your past self at the start of your writing journey?
To now wait so long to do something with my novels. Because I enjoy writing and being inspired by what I see and dream, I wouldn’t have waited so long to complete them.
What’s one thing you hope sticks with readers after they finish your book?
That imagination is truthful and God given. If we use our imaginations for good, there are no limits to what we can write and achieve.
