Step into the captivating world of Elle Angeline, where mesmerizing storytelling meets profound spiritual wisdom. Elle’s debut memoir, Ellechemy is a poignant journey of transformation and self-discovery, weaving together resilience, loss, and the quest for purpose.
Born in Bulawayo, Rhodesia, in 1978, Elle’s life took a dramatic turn amidst war, leading her family to emigrate to Durban, South Africa. Her adventurous spirit blossomed as she pursued a career in PR, taking bold leaps to London and Dublin, where she honed her skills on high-profile campaigns and events.
But Elle’s path diverged towards the ocean, where she found peace and spiritual connection during eight enriching years in yachting. Her journey of self-discovery led her to Rishikesh, India, immersing herself in yoga and spiritual exploration.
In 2017, Elle settled in Bali after facing personal loss, finding healing and purpose in spirituality. Now, she aspires to guide others through their own journeys, particularly those who’ve experienced early maternal loss.
Elle’s commitment to destigmatizing depression and mental illness underscores her mission to support others on their healing paths.
As a Reiki Master Healer and Intuitive guide, Elle brings a unique perspective to overcoming grief and depression. Her personal experiences, including the loss of her mother and surviving three suicides including her fiancé, lend authenticity and empathy to her writing.
Elle pursued her dream to move to Mexico and pen her memoirs. She now lives in Tulum, with her three rescue cats, Shaanti, Ayahuasca, and Jetaime. She spends her days writing, exploring the beach, cenotés, and embarking on spiritual journeys.
Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?
Ever since I was about five, writing has been my constant companion. Communication has always felt like my superpower, whether in conversation or through written words. As a voracious reader from a young age, books were my sanctuary, offering endless avenues for exploration and escape. From the enchanting adventures of Gobolina the Witch’s Cat to the tantalizing world of Lace, my literary journey was diverse and immersive. While others played with dolls during junior school, I was lost in the pages of the entire Sweet Valley High collection. And at thirteen, when classmates discussed classics like Lord of the Flies, I found myself enthralled by the provocative narrative of Lace, even choosing it for my English oral. Though I can’t pinpoint a single book that ignited my desire to write, the sheer joy of immersing myself in stories and shutting out the world has always been my inspiration.
What inspired you to start writing this book?
The inspiration behind Ellechemy stems from a deeply personal journey of grief, loss, and the quest for healing. Having faced the profound loss of my mother at sixteen and subsequent tragedies including the suicide of my fiancé, I intimately understand the isolating nature of grief and the desperate need for guidance and support. I yearned for a book that could offer support and understanding during those dark times, something to reassure me that I wasn’t alone in my pain. It was this longing for companionship on my grief journey that fueled my desire to pen Ellechemy. Through writing, I discovered a cathartic and healing process, realizing the power of words to soothe and transform. I want Ellechemy to serve as that guiding hand for others navigating similar struggles – a source of comfort, understanding, and hope. My aim is for it to be the big sister I never had, offering readers a sense of companionship and assurance that they will emerge from their pain stronger and wiser.
Tell us the story of your book’s title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?
The title Ellechemy came to me in a moment of clarity, almost as if it were whispered during meditation. It’s a perfect fusion of my name, Elle, and the concept of alchemy, symbolizing the essence of my journey – transforming the heavy weight of grief and pain into something precious and transformative. Just as alchemists sought to turn base metals into gold, Ellechemy represents the process of transmuting the lead of despair into the gold of resilience and growth. It encapsulates the essence of my story and the message I hope to convey – that even in the darkest moments, there is potential for profound transformation and renewal.
If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?
“I Ran (So Far Away)” by A Flock of Seagulls serves as the soundtrack for Ellechemy, adding an intriguing dimension to the overall ambiance. This song symbolizes the initial urge to escape or run away from challenges, reflecting the moments of turmoil and uncertainty in my journey. Its upbeat tempo and nostalgic 80s vibe provide a dynamic contrast to the introspective and transformative themes explored in my memoir, offering a glimpse into the complexities of navigating through difficult times.
Describe your dream book cover.
The dream book cover for Ellechemy depicts a powerful and evocative scene: a woman submerged underwater, her ethereal white dress billowing around her, creating an angelic image amidst the depths. Her hand reaches towards the surface, where a small glimmer of light and hope beckons, symbolizing her resilience and determination to survive. Beneath the surface, within the ocean depths, are distant images of souls, representing her guardian angels who are always with her, watching over and guiding her through her journey of transformation and self-discovery. The cover captures the essence of the book’s themes of resilience, hope, and the presence of unseen forces guiding us through life’s challenges.
What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?
Beyond my writing endeavors, I’ve pursued a diverse range of professional paths that mirror my passion for storytelling, connection, and exploration. My journey into Public Relations began with a bold leap to London at the age of 19, where I immersed myself in the vibrant PR scene on Oxford Street. Working for a high-profile PR firm there was invaluable, laying the foundation for my flourishing career. Upon moving to Dublin, I further honed my skills, handling top brand campaigns and orchestrating high-profile events.
However, my thirst for exploration led me down a different path – one that embraced the allure of the ocean. For eight fulfilling years, I immersed myself in the enchanting world of yachting as the Interior Manager, traveling the world by superyacht and sleeping on the boat and ocean for eight years – it was absolute bliss! But my quest for self-discovery didn’t end there. It led me to Rishikesh, India, where I delved into yoga teacher training, exploring the esoteric and spiritual dimensions of life.
I’m also a Reiki intuitive healer and an Access Consciousness practitioner, channeling my energy and expertise into healing modalities that support others on their journey of self-discovery and transformation.
Alongside my spiritual practices, I express my creativity through abstract resin artwork, infusing each piece with depth and meaning. Additionally, my talent extends to website design, where I bring my storytelling prowess to digital platforms, creating immersive and engaging online experiences.
