An Interview with Riley Morgan, author of the Talon Ridge Series

morgan 1

Riley Morgan is forty-something with an overactive imagination and a desire to create worlds to escape to. They run mostly on caffeine and a love for words. An agoraphobic with depression and severe anxiety, delving into fictional worlds is an oasis and lifeline for them. They also enjoy crocheting and supporting other authors. An avid reader of Reverse Harem, Omegaverse, and M/M, they decided to put pen to paper and try their hand at creating their own stories in these genres. They also really love coffee, dragons, foxes, and can be distracted quite easily by anything sparkly…ooh, shiny…

What inspired you to start writing this book?

My love for all things paranormal, really. I adore shifter Mpreg stories and fated mates, so when I caught an inkling of an idea, I decided to run with it.

Tell us the story of your book’s current title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?

Nothing sounded right for a long time until I realized that not only would this be a new beginning for my characters but also the beginning of something special for me, so New Beginnings just fit.

Describe your dream book cover.

Full of magic with a dragon, an Arctic fox, two handsome men (one a bit more masculine than the other), and the promise of something special to come within the pages of the book.

If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?

“Collide” – Howie Day

“Feels Like Home” – Chantal Kreviazuk

“Memorize You” – Laine Hardy

“Butterflies” – MAX, Ali Gatie

“Everything I Love” – Temecula Road

“Never Gonna Let You Down” – Colbie Cailat

“Thinking Out Loud” – Ed Sheeran

“Mean to Me” – Brett Eldredge

“I’ll Be” – Edwin McCain

“Rescue Me” – 30 Seconds to Mars

“The One” – Kodaline

(Still working on finding the right songs to fit the book but this is what I have so far.)

What books are you reading (for research or comfort) as you continue the writing process?

I just finished reading all of Maggie Hemlock’s Mpreg books, starting with the Hemlock Wolf Pack. I’m now reading Taylor Rylan’s paranormal series, starting with Honey Creek Den. I also read a lot of books on names, world-building, setting, etc.

What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?

I’m terrified of fireworks and loud noises. I geek out at the most random things.

Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?

A lot of authors have influenced me to stay true to my dreams and not give up. For me, both reading and writing is all about escaping situations in my life through fiction. It’s a safe haven from the storm and a light in the dark.

Where is your favorite place to write?

Curled up on my bed with my lap desk and a mug of coffee.

Do you have any writing rituals?

I do, actually. I have to have all my character’s information to hand, including images, a family tree, and whichever reference book is appropriate for the scene I’m writing.

What is one thing you hope readers take away from reading your book? How do you envision your perfect reader?

That in a world oftentimes filled with darkness we can still find hope, love, and family when we need it the most.
