An Interview with Robyn Pratt

pratt

I have been married for twenty-one years, have two teenage daughters, am a law enforcement spouse, and work part-time for the women’s ministry at my church. I have worked as a teacher’s aide, a missionary with Mission Aviation Fellowship, and a foster care mom. Life has not been boring!

Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?

I wanted to share my stories of God’s faithfulness in my life. I took an online class by Leslie Fields that helped me find the right tone, and create a devotional instead of a lecture.

What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?

I have worked as a clothing store associate, camp counselor, stat keeper for my high school baseball team, teacher’s aide, recess aide, missionary—during which I became fluent in Indonesian—foster care mom, and women’s ministry assistant, where I rediscovered my love of writing.

Tell us the story of your book’s title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?

I had around six different titles. My husband finally picked just the right one—On a Wing and a Prayer. He claims he is good at naming things because God gave that job to Adam.

How did it feel when you first saw your book cover? Or when you first held your book in your hands?

It was exciting, a relief that I was faithful. I thought it would be intimidating to have others read it, but I was just excited because I knew it was the story of God’s faithfulness, not mine.

If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?

This one is easy! I have had the song “On a Wing and a Prayer” stuck in my head for months.

What is one thing you hope readers take away from reading your book? How do you envision your perfect reader?

I hope they see God is the hero of the story, and that they can take leaps of faith with confidence. My perfect reader is someone who feels called to a new adventure and needs encouragement.

What was the most rewarding/meaningful part of publishing your book?

Hearing people are using the questions to write their own story, and being reminded of God’s faithfulness in their own adventures.

What new writing projects are you currently working on? Or, other projects that are not writing?

I am working on a historical fiction book set right after WWII. I am about a third of the way with the rough draft.
