An Interview with Talisa Camire

I’m an indie author who focuses on dark romance, mythology, and poetry words. My first book, and currently only book, is Dear Nobody. It’s a collection of letters I’ve never sent, just as the title appears! I’m working on a trilogy series right now based around Norse mythology.

What inspired you to start writing this book?

My inspiration for Dear Nobody was my life in general. I found it hard to cope with my emotions and loss within my life. Writing helped me release the pent-up feelings! Each letter has been written without a specific name attached, allowing the readers to fill in the blanks and relate to every word. I wrote this book so others who may be experiencing the same feelings will forever know they aren’t alone in the battle.

Tell us the story of your book’s current title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?

The title was an easy one. I’ve had it picked out since before I actually finished writing the collection itself. It just seemed fitting. I used to tell others that my writing was always called ‘Dear Nobody letters,’ so this gave me a chance to bring that unique title to life.

Describe your dream book cover.

My dream book cover…Hmm that’s a hard one since I designed its current cover myself! Perhaps something soft and elegant. With a feather pen and ink well. My dream cover would scream at the readers “Pick me, choose me, love me!”

If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?

I’ve never actually thought of utilizing a soundtrack for my poetry book since it’s a short book. But it would definitely feature Control by Zoe Wees.

What books are you reading (for research or comfort) as you continue the writing process?

Currently I’m reading Her Soul to Take by another fellow dark romance author, Harley! I read a lot of different genres but I definitely favor those with a romantic twist and some emotional turmoil.

What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?

I’ve actually been managing Dunkin’ and fast food places for about ten years. I’m a mom of two children, and I’m constantly singing, everywhere I go. I’ve always wanted to do more with my creativity and writing seemed like the best thing for me since I already did so much of it!

Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?

No particular influences other than myself, my own anxieties and insecurities. Writing has always been an outlet for my emotions. I wanted to give others a chance to feel those things as well.

Where is your favorite place to write?

My favorite place to write is cozied up on my couch or my bed with a hot cup of coffee or tea to pair with it!

What advice would you give your past self at the start of your writing journey?

Start sooner. Write sooner. And stop being so afraid to take the leap.

What’s one thing you hope sticks with readers after they finish your book?

That their feelings are valid, even when they are hurting. Sometimes it feels like we are alone in navigating our emotions but truthfully, there’s always someone out there who can relate.
