An Interview with William David

William David has had a successful forty-plus year career as a senior architectural and engineering designer working with international mining companies, designing gold, silver, and copper processing plants all over the world, including being the chief designer of the first SX-EW copper processing plant built in Asia, located at Monywa, Myanmar. William is retired now and living with his wife of forty-six years in Tucson, AZ. He likes spending time devoted to his passion: reading, reviewing, and writing poetry. William writes for his pleasure and for the pleasure of those who might read his poems.

What inspired you to start writing this book?

The love of writing poetry and writing it my way. Then wanting to share it with as many people as I can.

Tell us the story of your book’s current title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?

It came to me in a flash as an inspiration.

Describe your dream book cover.

I knew right away it was to be one of my photos as the background. It took me about three minutes to pick which one. About five minutes after that I knew what script font I wanted to use for the main title.

If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?

Mostly rock, maybe some select classical music for a few.

What books are you reading (for research or comfort) as you continue the writing process?

I rarely read. If I do, it’s certain poets or authors I know.

What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?

The architectural and engineering fields – structural, civil, and mechanical design for residential, light commercial, and industrial buildings. I did a lot of design work for mineral processing plants all over the world and a lot of land development work for several new subdivisions in Tucson, AZ.

Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?

No one or one certain person was influential in my wanting to start writing. I just always took to it; I suppose you’d say it just came naturally to me.

What advice would you give your past self at the start of your writing journey?

Get serious much sooner in life than I have. I’m getting old now.

What’s one thing you hope sticks with readers after they finish your book?

The messages I try to convey to the reader through the words I write. I seek to stir emotions, emotions of all kinds.
