Publication Contract Upgrades

If you’re not already at the Flagship or Enterprise level, there is a lot to gain by upgrading. More publicity, more promotion, access to different formats (hardcover, audiobook, etc.), and a longer and deeper relationship between you and our team. Of course, we understand that you need to make the best decision for you, and we encourage that. In terms of value, we’ve priced each package competitively and with a lot of benefits. Historically, authors who choose to upgrade do not regret the decision.
 
If you’re already at Flagship, you should consider asking us about Enterprise, as it’s the next step up in making a splash for your book. And if you’re already at Enterprise, congrats! 

The exact figure depends on your contract, but typically to upgrade one level (from Essential to Premium or from Premium to Flagship) it costs a total of $3300. You can pay this in halves: $1650 now and $1650 when your book is ready for the printer (or in six weeks, if your book has already been printed). 

 

To upgrade two levels (Essential to Flagship), it costs a total of $6600. You can pay this in halves: $3300 now and $3300 when your book is ready for the printer (or in six weeks, if your book has already been printed). 

 

As for Enterprise, that can require a little math, so reach out to us for an exact figure!

The amount of publicity support is the biggest difference between the packages. All packages will get you a beautifully designed and edited book that is globally distributed. Beyond that, each package includes ever-more in terms of the help you’ll get in making your book have an impact in the world. Luckily, all higher packages include everything from lower packages, so you don’t have to worry about missing out. Here’s a quick rundown of each package:
 
Essential: everything you need to bring a beautiful book to market: editorial, design, distribution.
 
Premium: add hardcover and editorial reviews to amplify the prestige of your book
 
Flagship: really make your mark with Kirkus, hosted readings, paid ads, and other perks to ensure a big debut
 
Enterprise: the best of the best, including such star features as social media agency services, a custom author website, a professionally narrated audiobook, and 4x the ad spend 
This is a great question, and we always want people to choose what’s going to work best for them, both in terms of their goals and their budget. Ask yourself: what do I want? If you want everything for your book, go Enterprise. If you don’t really care about publicity or you can do it on your own, or you have a tighter budget, stay with Essential. For our part, we recommend Flagship because we think it’s a great value, and it will give you an amazing experience and your book a great shot at making noise. In the end, the decision is yours, and if you want help determining which package is best for you, we’re here to help. 

Enterprise is truly the best of the best, offering more at its price point than any other publisher on the market. It includes high-impact add-ons like an audiobook, an author website, and social media agency services. In terms of it being invite-only, because it includes such a deep long-term relationship, we need to make sure that only the most skillful and personally invested authors take on such a partnership. We don’t put a deadline on contract upgrades, but we always recommend that authors interested in upgrading do it as early in the process as possible. That allows us to schedule the delivery of upgrade items in the most effective manner, while avoiding any unnecessary rush. In the end, it’s your decision, but there’s merit in “striking while the iron is hot.”
We used to allow this, but honestly, it didn’t work well. It led to confusion, crossed wires, misaligned expectations, and authors who were less happy. So now we require that authors choose one of the four packages above. Trust us: it’s better this way.
