It is vengeance, not forgiveness, that will set you free.

Aella Synn has lived before. She has died before. And in every lifetime, the holy Ascended Masters have taken something from her. Now, bound by blood oath and marked with darkness, Aella is sent back to Ionia with one purpose: punish the souls who wronged her in lives she is only beginning to remember.

The more Aella uncovers, the less holy the Ascended seem. Their laws are built on fear; their servants hide secrets. Their enemies may be the only ones telling the truth. As forbidden power rises within her and a resistance stirs beneath the world she thought she knew, Aella must decide whether destiny is something to obey—or something to burn down.
