An Interview with Ana from Sweden

Just like her character, Ana from Sweden lives in Stockholm and keeps her personal life behind the scenes. She might shop at the same grocery store as you or bring her kids to the same sports activities. Look around, there are plenty of women like her, present but often unnoticed. Ana the author holds a bachelor’s degree in literature. Confessions of a Female Dominant is her debut novel.

What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?

That’s easy: Unlike my book character, I’m not a financial analyst and never have been. Attentive readers probably noticed that right away—Ana is deliberately vague whenever she writes about her work.

As for me, my first job was as a newspaper editor.

What was the most rewarding/meaningful part of publishing your book?

The first reviews.

When someone who doesn’t know you personally reads your book, they have no connection to you and no preconceived opinion about you. The only way you can reach that person is through the 75,000 words of your novel.

If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?

Wish I Could Fly by Roxette.

What is one thing you hope readers take away from reading your book? How do you envision your perfect reader?

The price we pay for being liked by everyone.

Despite its provocative title, this book is for any middle-aged woman balancing family, work, and household responsibilities. A woman who has become so skilled at meeting everyone else’s emotional needs that she has almost forgotten her own.

How was working with Atmosphere Press? What would you tell other writers who want to publish?

It was both great and, at times, a little bumpy. Not everything went smoothly (some things were lost in translation), which led to a few funny moments along the way. In the end, those experiences helped build strong personal connections with some members of the Atmosphere team. My message to other writers: If you know your work doesn’t fit neatly into the criteria of traditional publishers, don’t spend years searching for one who will publish your book. Find a modern publishing path.
