An Interview with E.A. Jones

E.A. Jones is based in the heart of Wiltshire, England. She is married to her biggest supporter and has three boys. She is a lover of the countryside, having grown up on a farm. She has a lot of dogs, a horse, and some bantams.

Having always been an avid reader her whole life, she is now turning her hand to writing the books she has always wanted to read. A fan of fantasy, romance, and paranormal fiction. The ideas for her own work are inspired by local legends and her own vivid imagination.

What inspired you to start writing this book?

Beyond The Trees’ Reach was an idea that was sparked after I got lost, looking for my own dog, in the dark, in the fog. It was an idea that many years later, I still thought about, and I just had to immortalise my naughty dog, within the pages of my first book.

Tell us the story of your book’s current title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?

I find book titles very hard to come up with. This one was a suggestion from my husband, and I thought it was perfect. I am currently writing a romantasy novel and I have yet to come up with a perfect title for it. The working title is From Hell to Earth, A Reaper’s Love.

Describe your dream book cover.

I love fantasy book covers, magic and swirls, fancy lettering and fonts. I also love the sprayed edges that are currently being done on special edition hardcovers.

What books are you reading (for research or comfort) as you continue the writing process?

I love all the Sarah J. Maas ACOTAR books, as well as Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros.

What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?

My ‘day job’ is actually doing all the office and accounting work for my husband and I’s building contractor business. Lots of numbers and strict regulations and rules, so I offset it with lots of words and creativity after.

Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?

Simon, my husband, has always seen how much I love to read, and he has encouraged me to write my own, even though he is not a reader at all.

Where is your favorite place to write?

I love to light my wood burner fire and snuggle under a blanket with a hot cup of coffee and my laptop on my comfy sofa.

What advice would you give your past self at the start of your writing journey?

Do it scared. The only way to be more confident with your writing is to do more writing and then let other people read it.

What’s one thing you hope sticks with readers after they finish your book?

I have had good feedback from the readers of Beyond The Trees’ Reach. A lot of them have said they did not expect it to end the way it did. I love hearing that. I like to make the reader surprised, rather than have them guess the whole plot.
