Tell us the story of your book’s title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?
I came up with the idea to give myself a writing challenge for thirty days, and before I wrote day one, the first thing I did was type the title. It came to me on the soft wings of inspiration and I have kept it just as I wrote it down that first day. The title came first and I had to write the pieces to align with the title.
How did it feel when you first saw your book cover? Or when you first held your book in your hands?
When the courier delivered it to my door in China, my first reaction was relief. The journey to publication was two years from writing the book to finally holding it in my hand. My second reaction was tears of joy. I made it!
Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?
I would say The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron influenced my creative endeavors. As a child, I loved Mary O’Neill’s poems.
What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?
I have been a teacher for more than twenty years. As a university student, I worked in catering.
My readers wouldn’t know that my favorite breakfast is making French toast from old bread, dipped in milk and eggs, and I love adding nutmeg to everything.
What was the most rewarding/meaningful part of publishing your book?
Seeing how it is touching people’s lives. It is a small book, but people seem genuinely interested in what the book has to offer.
If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?
Corinne Bailey Rae – “Put Your Records On”
What is one thing you hope readers take away from reading your book? How do you envision your perfect reader?
Perfect readers
People who love to journal
Burnt out teachers
College students
Writers
Starting something new always seems daunting, but just decide to start and promise yourself to keep going. There is a reward at the end.
What creative projects are you currently working on?
A one word or one sentence journal for busy people.
How was working with Atmosphere Press? What would you tell other writers who want to publish?
I received a lot of expert advice from each of the team members that I was assigned to throughout the process.
They shared their ideas about improvements but mostly listened to what I wanted and how I envisioned my book. There is a solid team that will help you with your book.
