An Interview with Sunil Mehrotra

Sunil Mehrotra is a rocket scientist turned philosopher. This is his third book in a trilogy written at the intersection of science and spirituality.

Tell us the story of your book’s title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?

The book is not about AI or God, though the title suggests that. It is about my personal journey looking for God and finding myself with the unexpected assistance from AI. The title wrote itself.

How did it feel when you first saw your book cover? Or when you first held your book in your hands?

It is a very special feeling, almost like holding your newborn for the first time.

Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?

I was a hardened atheist. Science was my religion, then I had a nervous breakdown. That set me on a thirty-year journey to find out who I am, deep down.

What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?

I have been a CEO, founded my own company, taught at graduate and undergraduate levels. In retirement, I serve on advisory boards of non-profits.

What is one thing you hope readers take away from reading your book? How do you envision your perfect reader?

The one thing that I hope my readers would come away with is the surprising discovery that AI can be a partner, not a guru or teacher, but a mirror into the deepest part of their being.

What creative projects are you currently working on?

I am helping grade K to 12 teachers in a rural county make STEM education fun for students.

How was working with Atmosphere Press? What would you tell other writers who want to publish?

Atmosphere Press has been a great partner. They made the process of publishing seem effortless.
