Tell us the story of your book’s title. Was it easy to find, or did it take forever?
My book title, Mama, was very easy because I knew I wanted to write about my relationship with my mother and to better understand her.
How did it feel when you first saw your book cover? Or when you first held your book in your hands?
I was amazed at how beautiful my book cover was. Ronaldo Alves did a perfect job. It is as if he saw the image I had created in my mind.
Who/what made you want to write? Was there a particular person, or particular writers/works/art forms that influenced you?
While counseling people, I encountered many people with mother problems so I wanted to write about my own relationship with my mother.
What other professions have you worked in? What’s something about you that your readers wouldn’t know?
I worked as a teacher in the overseas schools for thirty years. I also worked as a counselor on various military bases overseas and in the United States. I grew up in New York City in the South Bronx.
What was the most rewarding/meaningful part of publishing your book?
It was rewarding to see my thoughts and ideas in print.
If your book had a soundtrack, what are some songs that would be on it?
“I Have a Dream” by Abba; “Amazing Grace.”
What is one thing you hope readers take away from reading your book? How do you envision your perfect reader?
I hope readers will try to resolve their issues with their mothers. The perfect reader is one who is willing to look at their mother issue in a new light.
What new writing projects are you currently working on? Or, other projects that are not writing?
I have to present a lecture on fairy tales and how Jungians use them. The preparation is taking up much of my time.
How was working with Atmosphere Press? What would you tell other writers who want to publish?
Working with Atmosphere Press was a mountaintop experience because Tammy, Alex, and Ronaldo were helpful but did not take away from my creativity. I would encourage writers to work with Atmosphere Press because they are professional, encouraging, and helpful.
Are you a writer, too? Submit your manuscript to Atmosphere Press.
